Model Citizen, Death by Algebra, Word Work, Naming the Monster, Rent Round 3, Can It, Dark Art, My Report Card
Model Citizen just further deepens the divide that is developing between Melinda and Heather. Melinda is still biting her lips until they scab, and doing everything she can to blend into the background, when a big part of her wants, and needs, to be seen. Meanwhile Heather dips her toe into modeling, becoming more and more comfortable with being seen in public for who she is.
Melinda continues to struggle in school and with her classes. It’s hard for her to focus, when the Monster is always lurking around the corner. Naming the monster, Melinda only gets as far as calling him IT. Leading right to Rent Round 3. It’s clear that Melinda’s parents care, they just don’t know how to reach her. This entry is so sad. Melinda is so clearly crying out for help, even going so far as to self-harm. But still, she stays silent. In Can It, IT finally is named. Andy Evans. Things are pretty dark for Melinda, and it seems like a dark time for Mr. Freeman and art class as well. Melinda’s report card is pretty dismal, but she isn’t outright failing. She has no idea how strong and resilient she is already being.
